I was an interning assistant for a designer MISS CHERRY. She specialises in sustainable, ethically sourced crochet design. While working on a new collection called ‘Natural Forms’, I gained insight into curating cohesive and sustainable concepts that influence the types of garments being promoted. Being an assistant pushed me into various realms of fashion including:
Concept Development
Helping Make Garments (Crochet and Sewing)
Assisting backstage at fashion shows
Working with models and like-minded creatives
Admin/Social Media and more
What I found so versatile about crochet design is that you're having to make the panels of fabric yourself, rather than buying fabric. It's much more meticulous and time-consuming, however, the end result is unique and can't be mass produced. These are a few of my boss' designs that I've helped make. Garments like the rose hot pants (top left) and the green hoodie (middle right) were concepts we developed together. I really enjoy contributing ideas in the development stage and giving my creative input.
